![]() ![]() Maybe the plants are just eating the ammonia. Given the low bioload and the fact that it's been almost 8 weeks now and I've never had a hing of ammonia or nitrites, who knows. Mostly because I don't know if the 38 gallon tank ever cycled. Then in the future I can move the aquaclear back to a 10 gallon to use as a quarantine tank when needed. ![]() But that's ok since my main motivation was to get a filter seeded with bacteria so I can ensure my main tank can be safe with more fish (as in the main tank, after 6 weeks with 6 zebra danios I've yet to see any ammonia / nitrites / nitrates show up).īut hey I'm cycling! So my plan now is once this tank is cycled, move the aquaclear filter over to the 38 gallon tank and add more fish there. Of course now I'll never know if it's because of the new filter, because of the gravel, because of the two different bacteria in a bottles or because it was just time and it would have happened anyway. Tim's page said cycling a bare tank is harder and takes longer, so I put in a few pounds of gravel and another dose of Stability and boom, the next day my nitrites are at 0.5. After 4 days still nothing was happening. So to update, I got tired of nothing happening so I put in an aquaclear 20 filter (sponge filter is still there too) and a bottle of Dr. I also seeded both with Stability ( beneficial bacteria) and have kept adding half a capful daily.Īny idea why the difference? Does the sponge filter not move enough water to grow bacteria as fast as the HOB? Or is the fact that the sponge tank is barren matter? I'm wondering if I should ditch the sponge filter and get a small HOB for the quarantine tnak as well. I started both tanks the same day with Dr. There has been no change in this one at all, no nitrites, nada. The other tank is completely empty sans for a heater and a sponge filter (ATI #1), it's my quarantine tank. This tank has been a champ, I saw nitrites at about 6 days and now after 9 days we're at 0.5ppm nitrites and it seems to be moving along. It has fluval black substrate, two plants (an anubias and micro sword), an aqueon 10 HOB filter, and a couple of plastic decorations. ![]() One is a tank for my daughter for a betta. I'm attempting to cycle 2 different 10 gallon tanks at the moment. ![]()
